Why You Should NOT Put a Dishwasher in the Shower
Some social media posts suggest placing a dishwasher inside a shower stall to save space or reuse plumbing.
While the idea may sound clever or convenient in extremely small living spaces, it is actually unsafe, impractical, and not recommended for several important reasons.
1. Electrical Safety Risks
Dishwashers require a grounded electrical connection. A shower is a high-moisture environment, greatly increasing the risk of:
- Electric shock
- Short circuits
- Electrical fires
Water and electricity should never mix, especially with an appliance designed for a dry installation area.
2. Water Damage to the Appliance
A dishwasher is designed to hold water inside its sealed compartments. Shower spray or humidity entering the control panel or vent can lead to:
- Corrosion
- Damaged circuitry
- Premature failure of the appliance
